Ltd was established in early 1999 as a result of the Kings Fund Report
carried out by Guernsey Social Security. At the time the States compiled its
research into the provision of healthcare in the Bailiwick, much of the
prescription dispensing was still undertaken by General Practitioners.
Patients now enjoy comprehensive pharmaceutical services within the practice environment. A pharmacist is on duty at all times to respond to symptoms and offer friendly advice. The fact that many of these pharmacies are situated next door to the doctor's surgeries makes life so much more convenient. Each pharmacy has extended opening hours and easy access parking for the convenience of its customers. |
One of the
report's recommendations was the greater use of pharmacists as an extra
level of professional supervision between doctors and patients. The
strategy of Healthcare Pharmacies Ltd, in close collaboration with the
Healthcare Groups GPs, was to take over the dispensing of prescriptions
and pharmaceutical care. Medical centres, such as St Martin's, were built
to incorporate community pharmacies. Where this was not possible,
pharmacies were relocated within the practices. This resulted in new
purpose built annexes at Rohais and Cobo.
